Re: Beta Testing Siamond

Hey Bo, Quite some work put in this open source project, this is cool. I did a few tests with the current version, here are various (hopefully constructive) comments. I'll refrain for making comments exceeding the scope of the existing main page (let's catch up first!). * BUG: The Sign-in link does...

Re: I'm trying to understand how arrive at the historical returns CFireSim uses

Good god I've been awful at keeping up with this forum. Ok, here's a rundown (caveat: I do not say that this is right or wrong. This is how FireCalc does it, and I reverse engineered this from FireCalc to use on cFIREsim). Given a portfolio of $1,000,000. Any given "Market Gain" = (Market ...

Re: Inconsistent Results from Standard Simulation with identical inputs

Sorry for the delay. We just had a baby, so it's a bit of chaos in the house. I was able to recreate this issue. I'm not sure if there's some sort of option being cached (I think the last "default" simulation run is actually running Monte carlo). I'm not going to directly fix this, as I ha...

Re: I'm trying to understand how arrive at the historical returns CFireSim uses

I'm sorry that it took so long to get you a reply. I've been in the midst of a real estate transaction and a move. I will report back the answer tomorrow. All I will say now, as a teaser, is that it took me a long time to figure out how FireCalc used Shillers numbers. Make sure you remember dividend...

Re: Allocation must add up to exactly 100%

I'm running cfiresim with a few scenarios once a day via a script. (If that's a problem, tell me to stop. I try to be nice and sleep a little between each submission.) My host isn't complaining, so I don't care :) I have noticed I get some occasional strange errors where I get no data. I've made al...

Re: can't enter asset allocation percentages?

Sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner.

Yes, it's a known "bug" that if your windows are too narrow, the fields sort of disappear. I believe this will be fixed on the newer open source version of cFIREsim that is due out soonish.

Re: Where do we start?

I apologize to all who have been looking on these forums. I've been incredibly busy in the last month or 2. We've gotten our house ready for sale, sold it, and house hunted a TON to find something else to move to. It's been exhausting and it's not over yet! I'm going to make an effort to review the ...

Re: Social Security and Deflation?

Interesting. I did not know that about SS.

Yes, as of now, cFIREsim does simply just follow all CPI adjustments (including deflation). I believe Firecalc does this as well.

I'll look into adding that into the cFIREsim open source project.

Re: Question on inflation

I know this forum isn't exactly booming with visitors, but I wanted to put this out there. As I'm coding, I realize that if we take spending out on January 1 (beginning of a year)... but do all of the Market Gain calculations on Dec 31st (end of a year), then should we be applying inflation differen...

Re: Hebeler's autopilot, updated

Interesting.

As I mentioned in another thread, we're reworking cFIREsim from the ground up. As we get closer to finishing, adding in new spending methods is going to be a lot easier. I'll keep this in mind for sure.
