Re: Gold/Cash

Seems easy enough. It appears that Gold's historic average gain since 1871 is 3.1%/yr. I'll put that as a default. I'm not sure the Historical Savings Account data is worthwhile, seeing as rates are completely abysmal right now. I'll put cash as a 0.25% default.

Re: Investigating Maximum Spending Level[FIXED]

Did you mean to remove the graph in this scenario? Yes, because in the case of Investigating the Spending Amount, given a portfolio, the investigation only looks at the fixed portfolio amount. If you chose Investigate Portfolio, and messed around with the Spending level in the input form, the outpu...

Re: Add user set random return with variability

Yeah, this is the "Monte Carlo" aspect of Firecalc. It's on the list of future features.

Re: Gold/Cash

Allow for user inputted flat % growth of Gold/Cash? This can be pretty easily done.

Re: Investigating Maximum Spending Level

I managed to revamp the investigation algorithm using http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binary_search_algorithm this as an example. I fixed both the Spending and Portfolio investigations so that it finds the Max/min value within $1. I also fixed the output to say "The maximum Spending for $X Portfol...

Re: Investigating Maximum Spending Level

It also appears to do this on 99%, but not 98% (on the default scenario)? Haven't played more than that, but something is definitely wrong with investigate spending + 100% and 99% confidence level... After saying this, I'm almost positive I know where the bug lies. I my logic for investigation, I h...

Re: Investigating Maximum Spending Level

Ah, you know what. I think I know what's confusing. The graph at the top shows the output of all the inputs regardless of the "Investigate" selection . The little blurb at the bottom of the page shows the "Investigate" results. I need to make the page only show the Investigate re...

Re: Investigating Maximum Spending Level

I'm not sure I follow. Please give me your exact inputs and outputs. I did the following: Input: Portfolio: 800000 Output: Investigation Finished! Maximum Spending level (to support inputted Portfolio)= $31,845.00 Input: Portfolio: 800000, Pension income (starting in 2016, infl adjusted): 10000. Out...

Re: Request: Investigate Contributions, Year, and Market Gro

It'd be cool if you were retiring in a future year to have it investigate which year you will hit the threshold (95% or whatever), as well as have it investigate how much per year you'd need to add to hit that threshold in a given year (two different investigations, one for contributions, one for y...
